This specimen was lot 680 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,086.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Passau. Taler, 1703-SEIZ/IMF. Bishop Johann Philipp von Lamberg (1689-1712). NGC AU-58. Sharply struck. A good deal of underlying luster. Very attractive." The Bishopric of Passau, between Bavaria and Austria, struck a few thalers in the eighteenth century, all now rare. The state fell to Bavaria during the Napoleonic upheavals and is now part of Germany.
Recorded mintage: unknown but somewhat scarce.
