Schulman 389-202r.jpg

This specimen was lot 202 in Schulman auction 389 (Amsterdam, December 2025), where it sold for €500 (about US$705 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Italy - Ducato 1786, Silver, FERDINANDO di Borbone 1765-1802, PARMA Head right. Rev. crowned arms. Ex Cherry Tree Collection. PCGS Genuine XF Details. Cleaned." This scarce type was struck 1786, 1789 and 1790. It is not a ducaton as listed in the SCWC and Numista but a ducato, a smaller coin. Ferdinand (1751-1802) ruled Parma from 1765 until March 1801, when he was forced to surrender his domain to the French. His son Louis (1773-1803) was briefly king of Etruria (1801-03), a French puppet state. Louis' son Charles Louis (1799-1883) regained the throne of Parma in 1847.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 25.70 g, 0.902 fine silver, this specimen 25.66 g.
