Parma 1786-S 8 doppie Fr-926
This specimen was lot 656 in Sincona Auction 103 (Zürich, May 2026), where it sold for 20,000 CHF (about US$30,480 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Parma. Ferdinando di Borbone, 1765-1802. 8 Doppie 1786, Parma. Sehr selten. Exemplar der Auktion Hess/Leu 18, Luzern, Oktober 1961, Los 293. (Italy, duchy of Parma, Ferdinand of Bourbon, 1765-1802, eight doppie of 1786, Parma mint. Very rare. NGC MS61.)"
This rare type was struck 1786, 1789, 1791-92, 1796. Eight doppie was probably intended to be sixteen scudi d'oro. Ferdinand (1751-1802) ruled Parma from 1765 until March 1801, when he was forced to surrender his domain to the French. His son Louis (1773-1803) was briefly king of Etruria (1801-03), a French puppet state. Louis' son Charles Louis (1799-1883) regained the throne of Parma in 1847.
