Papal States 1817-B giulio
This specimen was lot 1648 in Künker sale 403 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €550 (about US$722 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PAPST PIUS VII., 1800-1823. Die Münzstätte Bologna. Giulio (Paolo) A XVIII/1817 B, Bologna. Stempelschneider Tommaso Mercandetti. Min. Kratzer, fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Heidelberger Münzhandlung, Herbert Grün 67, Heidelberg 2016, Nr. 659. (Papal States, Pius VII, 1800-23, giulio or paolo of 1817, year 18, Bologna mint. Minor scratches, about extremely fine.)"
This scarce type, the last of its denomination, is also known with an 1817/6 overdate altho no regular 1816 is listed. Ten giulii made a scudo.
