Papal States 1788 doppia d'oro Fr-386
This specimen was lot 2854 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALY | Vatican - Church State, Pius VI. 1775-1799. Doppia Romana 1788, Bologna. Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1787 geändert. Fast FDC. Prachtexemplar. (Papal States, Pius VI, 1775-99, Roman doppia of 1788, Bologna mint, 1788/7 overdate. About uncirculated, Cabinet piece.)"
This type was issued 1787-88 and is not rare in circulated condition. The Bologna mint used a different design than the Rome mint (Fr-246). The SCWC catalogs this as a thirty paoli. The doppia was originally a double scudo d'oro.
