This specimen was lot 75741 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $125. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). 1/2 Baiocco, Year IX (1783/4). Rome Mint. Pius VI. PCGS MS-64 Brown." This type is listed for 1783-84 and was struck in Rome. It is undated but shows the regnal year (IX) on the obverse. The early coinage of the Papal States used an antique monetary system. After 1830, five quattrini = one baiocco; 100 baiocchi = one scudo.
