Sincona sale 80, lot 2831

This specimen was lot 2831 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$360 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | Vatican - Church State, Innozenz X. 1644-1655. 1/2 Grosso o. J. Roma. Selten. Vorzüglich. Hübsche Patina. (Papal States, Innocent X, 1644-55, undated half grosso, Rome mint. Rare, Extremely fine, Attractively toned.)"

This type was struck dated years IX and X. It is listed as common but rarely appears this nice. There are many mezzi grossi listed for this pope but this is the only one dated year X.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.78 g, silver, 0.917 fine[2]. This specimen is 0.76 g.
