This specimen was lot 75126 in Stack's Bowers May 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $268.40. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Papal (States of the Church). Piastra, ND (1634-43). Rome Mint. Urban VIII. FINE Details--Scratched. From the Greyhound Collection." This type is listed for year XII (1634) and XX (1643). This example should state "AN· XII" under the bust were it not for the weak strike. The reverse legend is taken from the ancient prayer, "Sub tuum praesidium confugimus, Sancta Dei Genetrix. Nostras deprecationes ne despicias in necessitatibus, sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper, Virgo gloriosa et benedicta. Amen." = "We fly to thy protection, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen."
