Papal States (1634) piastra Dav-4060
This specimen was lot 587 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €90 (about US$114 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Urbain VIII (1623-1644), (Maffeo Barberini), AR piastre, an 12, Rome. D/ B. à d. R/ TE MANE TE VESPERE Le Pape agenouillé à g., invoquant saint Michel. très bien conservé. (Italy, Pontifical State, Urban VIII (1623-44), silver piastre, year 12, Rome mint. Obverse: bust to right; reverse: the Pope kneels and prays before St. Michael. Very good.)"
This type is noted for 1634 (shown here) and 1643 and is one of numerous piastri struck during Urban's reign.
Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
