Papal States (1471-84) grosso Ber-451
This specimen was lot 545 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €450 (about US$570 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Sixte IV (1471-1484), (Francesco della Rovere), AR grosso, s.d., Rome. D/ SIXTVS IIII PONT MAX VRBE REST B. à g. R/ PVBLICAE- VTILITATI Dans un quadrilobe, l'écu du pape sous les clés et la tiare. Rare. Beau à Très Beau. (Italy, Pontifical State, Sixtus IV (1471-84), silver grosso, undated, Rome mint. Obverse: bust to left. Reverse: arms, crossed keys, tiara within quadrilobe. Rare, fine to very fine.)"
Berman notes five different grossi for this pope of which this is the rarest.
