This type was struck 1973-83, 1986 and 1993. It matches the module of the United States clad half dollar in every respect. The second specimen was lot 30148 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $8,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "PANAMA. Gold Piefort 1/2 Balboa, 1982. NGC PROOF-67 Ultra Cameo. Struck in 0.400 gold. Estimated Mintage: 15. An EXTREMELY RARE piefort struck in pale gold and gleaming with proof brilliance. Almost flawless in execution and preservation, this offering is sure to delight collectors of the series."

Recorded mintage: 400,000 plus est. 15 in gold.

Specification: regular issue: 11.34 g, copper-nickel clad copper, 30.61 mm diameter, reeded edge. KM-P5: 0.400 fine gold.
