This specimen, struck for Panama by the Philadelphia and West Point mints in 1975, was struck on blanks matching the U.S. cent. Simultaneously, the Franklin mint was striking centesimos for the sets it marketed, using a facing bust of chief Urraca (KM 33, issued 1975-82). Unfortunately, collecting Panamanian coins lost its popularity after the Franklin mint overissued proof sets and commemoratives in the 1970's and 1980's. For years, few Panamanian coins sold for more than melt.
Recorded mintage: 10,000,000.
Specification: 3.11 g, bronze, 19.05 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM 22.
