Ottingen in the late eighteenth century

This specimen was lot 4059 in Goldberg sale 80 (Los Angeles, June 2014), where it sold for $15,210. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Öttingen-Wallenstein-Wallenstein. Taler, 1694. Wolfgang of Wallerstein, 1692-1708. Augsburg mint. Helmeted arms with '90' below. Reverse: Crowned double headed eagle. Razor sharp strike with full original mint fresh luster. A visually stunning coin for the discriminating collector. NGC graded MS-65." The county issued two thalers in 1694 (the other being Dav-7142), both rare. The county was later partitioned between Baden and Wurttemberg in 1806.
