Sincona sale 6, lot 782

This specimen was lot 763 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$185 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Oldenburg, Grossherzogtum Nicolaus Friedrich Peter, 1853-1900. Vereinstaler 1866. Kl. Kr. Fast vorzüglich-vorzüglich. (Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, Nicholas Frederick Peter, 1853-1900, union thaler of 1866. Light hairlines, extremely fine.)"

Despite the small mintage, this three year type is not especially expensive, suggesting that it was extensively saved.

Recorded mintage: 72,000.

Specification: 18.52 g, 0.900 fine silver, .536 troy oz ASW; this specimen is 18,43 g.

Catalog reference: Kahnt 322. Thun 241, Dav-753, KM 196.
