from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 11138
note the ⚒ mintmark

The first specimen was lot 72240 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2022), where it sold for $780. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. 8 Skilling, 1704-DMA. Kongsberg Mint. Frederik IV. NGC MS-63. This choice beauty provides sharply luster and sharp details, a perfect piece for the specialist." This type is listed for 1702-15 and, like most Norwegian coins of the eighteenth century, it is probably scarcer than the modest catalog values would indicate. This example is far superior to the plate coin in the SCWC. One speciedaler was 96 skilling. Norway passed from Danish to Swedish rule in 1814. The second specimen was lot 11138 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €336 (about US$350). The catalog description[2] noted, "NORWAY. 8 Skilling, 1704. Kongsberg Mint. Frederik IV. NGC VF-30. From the L. E. Bruun Collection."

Recorded mintage: 982,000.

Specification: 2.29 g, 0.750 fine silver. The second specimen is 2.26 g.

Catalog reference: KM-209; H-6B; Sieg-3.2; NMD-27; Schou-18; Bruun-10541.
