Norway 1661-FG specie daler Dav-3607
This specimen was lot 1084 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $7,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "NORWAY. Fredrik III. 1648-1670. AR Speciedaler. Christiana mint. Dated 1661 FG. Crowned and armored bust right / Crowned lion rampant left, holding ax; all within wreath. Toned with full luster underneath. In NGC encapsulation 8223500-010, graded AU 58. A well struck lion. Ex L.E. Bruun (1852-1923) Collection." This speciedaler is listed for 1659-62 and, like all Norwegian crowns of the seventeenth century, is rare and expensive. Another 1661 specie daler (Dav-3611/KM 56) is labeled "unique" in the SCWC. Double and quadruple specie dalers also exist for 1661.
