North Peru 1838-L MB 8 reales

This type was struck in Lima for the short-lived state of North Peru. It was struck 1836-39 and is only somewhat scarcer than the regular issue. The complete span of Peru standing liberty eight reales runs 1825-55. The first example shown was lot 27114 in Heritage Auction 3014 (Chicago, April 2011), where it sold for $356. The catalog description[1] reads: "Republic 8 Reales 1838-MB, MS61 NGC, attractive underlying luster."
