Newfoundland 1907 cent
This specimen was lot 32605 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. Edward VII Large Cent 1907 MS63 Brown NGC. Velvety toning with a mahogany color. A type that was spent, not saved. Hard to find in mint state." This specimen is from a type struck in London for the colony of Newfoundland 1907-09. Issues after 1938 are small size. This date is common up thru Extremely Fine. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased. As a class, Newfoundland coinage is scarcer than equivalent Canadian coinage but collector demand for it is lower so it is often cheaper.
