This specimen was lot 3350 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $616.88. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. Newfoundland. Cent, 1909. PCGS MS-66 RD. Sharply struck. Soft satin luster." This specimen is from a type struck in London for the colony of Newfoundland 1907-09. Issues after 1938 are small size. This date is common up thru Extremely Fine. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased. As a class, Newfoundland coinage is scarcer than equivalent Canadian coinage but collector demand for it is lower so it is often cheaper.
