This specimen was lot 1636 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "Canada-Newfoundland. Cent, 1913. George V. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown." This type was struck in 1913 at London and 1917-20, 1929, 1936 at Ottawa for Newfoundland (then a separate colony) and is the last large cent struck for circulation there. Newfoundland was admitted into the Dominion of Canada in 1949 and her separate coinage ceased. As a class, Newfoundland coinage is scarcer than equivalent Canadian coinage but collector demand for it is lower so it is often cheaper.
Recorded mintage: 400,000.
Specification: bronze.
