This specimen was lot 1875 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEWFOUNDLAND: Victoria, 1837-1901, AR 50 cents, 1881, PCGS graded EF40." This type was struck at Heaton and London 1870-1901 for Newfoundland and is slightly heavier than the contemporary Canadian fifty cents. Struck in small numbers and exposed to long circulation, it is very rare in nice condition. Proofs exist.
Recorded mintage: 50,000 + proofs, a better date.
Specification: 11.78 g, 0.925 fine silver, .350 troy oz ASW.
