Goldberg sale 93, lot 2097

This specimen was lot 2097 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "Newfoundland. 50 Cents, 1880 NGC EF. Victoria. NGC graded Extremely Fine, Details (Surface Hairlines). Estimated Value $150 - 200. From the Aurora Family Collection." This type was struck at Heaton and London 1870-1901 for Newfoundland and is slightly heavier than the contemporary Canadian fifty cents. Struck in small numbers and exposed to long circulation, it is very rare in nice condition. Proofs exist.
