This type was struck at Melbourne for the Australian territory of New Guinea in 1935-36. Additional shillings were struck in 1938 and 1945 in the name of George VI. The scene of fierce fighting during World War Two, the region obtained its independence in 1975 as Papua New Guinea.

Recorded mintage: 1,360,000.

Specification: 5.38 g, 0.925 fine silver, 23.5 mm diameter.
