Neuchatel 1713-IP pistole Fr-2311
This specimen was lot 3226 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €9,000 (about US$12,525 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich (III.) I. 1701-1713. Pistole 1713, IP, Neuenburg (Neuchâtel). Prägung für das Fürstentum Neuenburg. Büste r. mit Lorbeerkranz, darunter die Signatur I · P · (Jean Patry, Münzmeister in Neuenburg 1713)//Gekröntes, vierfeldiges Wappen Neuenburg/Chalon mit Mittelschild von Preußen, darunter die Jahreszahl 1713. GOLD. RR Nur 1.000 Exemplare geprägt. Umschrift teilweise schwach ausgeprägt, sehr schön-vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 42, Osnabrück 1998, Nr. 3784. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick I, 1701-13, pistole of 1713, struck for the principality of Neuchatel. Der Kanton Neuenburg liegt in der Region des Schweizer Juras in der Westschweiz. Durch den Frieden von Utrecht fiel Neuenburg 1713 an Preußen. Die preußischen Könige regierten das Fürstentum durch Gouverneure, die ihren Sitz entweder im Schloß von Neuenburg oder in Berlin hatten und sich nur selten in die inneren Angelegenheiten der Exklave einmischten. (the canton of Neuchâtel lies in the region of the Swiss Jura in west Switzerland. Neuchatel passed to Prussia by the Treaty of Utrecht. The Prussian king ruled the principality thru a governor, whose seat was in the palace of Neuchatel.)"
This type, like most issues from this small part of Switzerland, is rare. We don't know why this example is so light compared to the reported specification.
