Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72444

This specimen was lot 72444 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $384. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. United East India Company. 1/2 Duit, 1790. NGC MS-61 Brown. A well struck coin with glossy surfaces, very dark brown patina, and a die crack running through the obverse legend." This is a one year type with Gelderland arms. The year also saw half duits from Utrecht (KM 112.3). Westfriesland, Zeeland and Holland also struck half duits but not in 1790. Later half duits were issued in the name of the Batavian Republic.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a common date.
