This specimen was lot 23319 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $70. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Batavian Republic. 1/2 Duit, 1803. NGC AU-55 Brown. A bit of rub and some die erosion but very decent." This type was struck 1802-09 and is listed as inexpensive. The Dutch hold on the East Indies at this point was weak and the British captured Batavia more than once during the Napoleonic Wars. Dutch control was restored at the Congress of Vienna and was steadily expanded to include all of what is now Indonesia.
