Netherlands East Indies 1752 duit KM-70
This specimen was lot 75295 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Holland. Dutch East India Company. Silver Duit, 1752. Dordrecht Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-63. Bright and flashy with satiny cartwheel luster. This lovely "presentation" Duit features the classic Holland arms and VOC monogram but is struck in silver. From the Sydney F. Martin Collection." This type was struck in copper 1726, 1730-37, 1742-57, 1764-72, 1776-93 and is cheap. It was also struck 1735-36, 1746-63 in silver. This example does not appear to have made it to the East Indies. Other provincial duits struck for the East Indies include KM 131, 132, 134, 136 (Westfriesland), KM 150, 159 (Zeeland), KM 111 (Utrecht) and KM 50 (Gelderland).
