Netherlands East Indies 1749 duit KM-70
This specimen was lot 24390 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $600. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS EAST INDIES. Holland. Silver Duit, 1749. Dordrecht Mint. NGC AU-58. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. A true AU-58, a choice piece with a trace of rub. We have offered silver duits before but not this date." This type was struck in copper 1726, 1730-37, 1742-57, 1764-72, 1776-93 and is cheap. It was also struck 1735-36, 1746-63 in silver. This example does not appear to have made it to the East Indies. Other provincial duits struck for the East Indies include KM 131, 132, 134, 136 (Westfriesland), KM 150, 159 (Zeeland), KM 111 (Utrecht) and KM 50 (Gelderland).
