Stack's Bowers 2023 ANA sale, lot 57350
SB823-57350r.jpg

This specimen was lot 57350 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "NEPAL. 2 Mohurs, VS 1983 (1926). Tribhuvana Bir Bikram. NGC MS-64. KM-695." This coin is not a double mohur, which would have been a large gold coin worth thirty rupees, but a double mohar, a thin silver coin struck VS 1968-1989. While the single mohar was struck in silver and gold, the double mohar was struck only in silver. No date is given a premium, more likely due to lack of interest than any variation in rarity. Nepal was and is an independent nation between India and Tibet but under the strong influence of the British raj.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 11.2 g, silver, 29 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 695.
