Nepal VS1979 tola
This specimen was lot 2289 in Jean Elsen sale 145 (Brussels, September 2020), where it sold for €750 (about US$1,069 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "NEPAL, Tribhuvana Vira Vikrama (AD 1911-1950/VS 1968-2007) AV tola (asarphi), VS 1979 (AD 1922). Very Fine - Extremely Fine." This issue of king Tribhuvana Bir Bikram (r. 1911-50) is listed for VS 1969, 1974-1991, 1998-2003 (common era 1912-46). No date is given a premium, more likely due to lack of interest than any variation in rarity. Nepal was and is an independent nation between India and Tibet but under the strong influence of the British raj.
