Naples and Sicily 1840 30 ducati Fr-866
This specimen was lot 3011 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,688 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Naples / Sicily, Ferdinando II. 1830-1859. 30 Ducati 1840, Napoli. Fast vorzüglich. Übliche kleine Kratzer und winzige Randfehler (About extremely fine, Usual small scratches and minor edge nicks)." This rare type was struck 1839-40 only. These large gold coins were issued intermittently until 1856 and all are rare. The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies was annexed to Italy in 1860 but remains poor, backward and corrupt.
