The first specimen was lot 3336 in Aureo y Calicó sale 422 (Barcelona, December 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italia. Nápoles. 1842. Fernando II. 2 tornesi. Rayitas. CU. MBC- [scratches, about very fine]." This type was struck 1838-56 and is scarce in choice condition. This example appears to have been deliberately defaced; king Fernando (nicknamed "king Bomba" after he ordered the navy to bombard Messina during a revolt) was not universally beloved.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.24 g, copper, 24.5 mm diameter, this specimen 6,14 g.
