Naples and Sicily 1628-MCC scudo d'oro Fr-840
This specimen was lot 2633 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 1,400 CHF (about US$1,885 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Neapel / Sizilien, Filippo IV. 1621-1647. Scudo d'oro 1628, Firenze. Sigla M/C/C und C. Sehr schön. Leicht gereinigt. (Italy, kingdom of Naples, Philip IV, 1621-47, gold scudo of 1628, Florence mint (sic). Very fine, Lightly cleaned.)"
This type was struck for Philip IV of Spain 1622-29. The Spanish ruled Naples until the death of the last Hapsburg in 1700. It was almost certainly struck in Naples, not in Florence.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
