This specimen was lot 20035 in Stack's-Bowers iAuction 3533 (Irvine, CA, June 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description noted, "ITALY. Naples. 1/2 Carlino, ND ca. (1554-98). Filippo II (1554-98). NGC-55. Mid-16th century silver with nearly all of its original detail, but struck with worn dies. Even color." This type was struck for Philip II of Spain, he of the Spanish Armada. The Spanish ruled Naples until the death of the last Hapsburg in 1700.
