Jean Elsen sale 154, lot 1360

This specimen was lot 1360 in Jean Elsen sale 154 (Brussels, March 2023), where it sold for €240 (about US$311 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"NAMUR, Comté, Philippe le Bon, héritier du comté (1421-1429), AR double gros braspenning, Namur. D/ Ecus de Bourgogne et de Flandre accolés sous un heaume cimé d'un lis. Point sous le P de PHS et le D de FLANDRIE. R/ Croix pattée cantonnée de deux lions et deux lis. presque Très Beau. (county of Namur, Philip the Good, heir to the county (1421-29), silver double groat, Namur mint. Obverse: arms of Burgundy and Flanders under a helmet, dot under the "P" of "PHS" and under the "D" of "FLANDRIE"; reverse: cross pattée cantonned with two lions and two lilies. About Very Fine.)"

This double gros braspenning was struck throughout the Burgundian Netherlands, including Namur (shown here), Luxembourg, Hainaut, Flanders and Brabant.
