The first specimen was lot 3695 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $506. The catalog description[1] noted, "Muscat & Oman. 15 Saidi Rials, AH1381 (1961). NGC graded MS-66." The second specimen was lot 33817 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,680. The lot description[2] noted, "Muscat & Oman: Sa'id bin Taimur gold 15 Saidi Rials AH 1381 (1962) MS69 PCGS, London mint. A seldom encountered type that seems to be in increasing demand amongst collectors. Beautifully executed and maintained with the same exactitude, this piece has landed at the peak of the certified population at PCGS, unlikely to be bested so close to perfection." This, the only gold coin of the emirate of Muscat and Oman, was issued prior to the reorganization of the country following the 1970 coup.

Recorded mintage: 2,000 plus 100 proofs.

Specification: 7.99 g, .916 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW (same standard as a British sovereign).

Catalog reference: KM 35.
