Stephen Album sale 50, lot 2478

This specimen was lot 2478 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $90. The catalog description[1] noted, "MUGHAL: Akbar I, 1556-1605, AV 1/12 Indian mohur, [Badakhshan], AH989, central horizontal line on the obverse, as on similar pieces dated AH988 and 990 sold in our recent auctions; off-center strike, about 25% flat, VF, RR." Badakhshan, where this coin was struck, is today divided between Afghanistan and Tajikistan and is considered the heartland of Turcoman culture. This type is listed in the SCWC as an undated 1/10 mohur. Fractional mohurs are very scarce.
