This specimen was lot 38564 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mughal Empire. Rupee, AH 1040 (1631). Surat Mint. Muhammad Shah Jahan. NGC MS-61." Shah Jahan is most remembered today for having built the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum for his wife. This rupee was struck at Surat AH 1037-1046 and is common. Most Mughal coinage comes with regnal dates but not this issue.
