Montfort 1730 1/4 ducat Fr-554
This specimen was lot 6100 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,877 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"MONTFORT, GRAFSCHAFT, Anton der Jüngere, 1693-1733. 1/4 Dukat 1730, Langenargen. Variante mit größerem Brustbild. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung AU 58 (5909726-006). GOLD. RR Vorzüglich. (county of Montfort, Anthony the Younger, 1693-1733, quarter ducat of 1730, Langenargen mint, variety with large bust. Very rare, extremely fine, graded NGC AU-58.)"
This type was struck 1722, 1728, 1730. it is expensive in all grades. Montfort is an extremely obscure locality on the shore of Lake Constance in Wurttemberg. We have filed it under Austria as the counts sold out to the Austrian emperor in 1780.
