Sincona sale 97, lot 2017

This specimen was lot 2017 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"RDR / ÖSTERREICH, Joseph II. 1765-1790. Sovrano 1790 M, Mailand. Gutes sehr schön. Justiert. (Holy Roman Empire, Joseph II, 1765-90, souverain d'or of 1790, Milan mint. Good Very Fine, Adjustment marks.)"

This type was struck for Joseph II 1786-90. Similar coins with other mintmarks (Brussels, Vienna, etc.) are listed under the Austrian Netherlands. Sovranos were also struck in 1790 for his brother and successor Leopold II. The Austrians held Milan from 1714 until its seizure by the French in 1797.
