Milan 1790-LB lira KM-230
This specimen was lot 1483 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 2,600 CHF (about US$3,156 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Leopold II. 1790-1792. Lira 1790 M, Mailand. Mit der Signatur LB (Michael Leitner und Antonio Brusasorci, Münzmeister in Mailand). Selten in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. NGC MS64. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (Austria, Leopold II, 1790-92, lira of 1790, Milan mint, with mintmasters' initials "LB". Rare in this condition, About uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
This type was struck 1790-91 and is very scarce, verging on rare. It does not bear the "M" mintmark usually used for Milan. Lire were also struck for Joseph II in 1790 (KM 208) and are quite a bit more available.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 5.94-6.24 g, silver, this specimen 6.24 g.
Catalog reference: KM 230, Mont 145 (R2). Herinek 57.
