Milan H3073-33380r.jpg

This specimen was lot 33380 in Heritage sale 3073 (Chicago, April 2019), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "Milan. Maria Theresa Soldo 1777-S MS65 Red and Brown NGC, Schmollnitz mint. A rich red specimen that at present sits tied with a single other example at the peak of the NGC census. Rarely encountered so fine, and certainly deserving of a premium as such." This type was struck 1777 and 1779 and is priced fairly low in the SCWC but it is likely scarcer than it appears, especially in nice condition. It is also known without mintmark and with a "W" for Vienna. A soldo was one twentieth of a lira.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 7.24-7.78 g, copper, 23-24 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 186.
