This specimen was lot 2682 in Goldberg sale 109 (Los Angeles, January 2019), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "Italian States: Milan. ½ Ducatone, ND. Charles V, 1535-1556. Laureate head right. Reverse: Eagle on globe. Toned. Very Scarce type. About Very Fine." The type shown here was struck at Milan for Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and king of Spain. The Spanish issues for Milan ended with the death of Charles II in 1700, when the duchy passed to Austria, which held it until the coming of Napoleon.
