This specimen was issued by the Mexico City mint to honor the 500th anniversary of the founding of Veracruz, still Mexico's most important port. Like many recent issues, it remains unlisted in the SCWC. The oblong patch on the obverse contains microengraving, an anticounterfeiting device. The twenty pesos was reduced from 15.95 g, 32 mm diameter to 12.67 g, 30 mm diameter, in 2019.
Recorded mintage: 60,000,000.
Specification: 12.67 g, nickel brass center in an aluminum bronze ring, 30 mm diameter, interrupted reeded edge.
