This coin was minted in Mexico City to honor Miguel Hidalgo, martyr of the War of Independence. It replaced the silver five pesos of 1951-54. In 1957, it was succeeded by a commemorative for Benito Juarez.

Specification: 28.88 g, 0.900 fine silver, .835 troy oz ASW, 40 mm diameter.
