Mexico 1808-Mo TH 4 escudos
This specimen was lot 31328 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $4,230. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles IV gold 4 Escudos 1808/0 Mo-TH AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint, Borderline Mint State with very slight high-point friction and substantial mint bloom. The final and scarcer final date of this type, the overdate very bold and apparently also scarcer than the plain date variety. Rare in this charming quality and currently the single certified example of the date by NGC. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce. The type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most plentiful of all the colonial four escudos.
