This specimen was lot 3210 in the Eliasberg sale, where it sold for $1035. The catalog description[1] noted, "1806/5 TH 4 escudos. Mexico City mint. AU-50 (NGC). Types as above. Medium gold with orange toning and generous amounts of lustre on both sides. Purchased from Mortimer Hammel, April 18, 1945." This type was struck 1792-1808 and is the most available of Mexican colonial four escudos but, like the smaller two escudos, remains scarce.

Specification: 13.53 g, 0.875 fine gold, .380 troy oz AGW; this specimen: 13.47 grams, 30.40 mm diameter.
