This specimen was lot 7134 in Ponterio sale 153 (Baltimore, March 2010), where it sold for $517.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1799-FM. Slightly weak strike. NGC AU-55." Assayer FM is known for the years 1784-1801. All Mexican colonial gold may be considered scarce but the escudos of Charles IV are among the more available types.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
