This specimen was lot 31174 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Charles III gold 2 Escudos 1762 Mo-MF XF40 NGC, Mexico City mint, Attractive for the designation with partial subdued luster and good eye appeal. A charming example of the rare first date in the series, missing in Gerber (who in fact lacked the type entirely), Norweb and Eliasberg. The only example of the date listed in the current census of NGC, and among the nicest of the five pieces noted by the cataloguer, including the ones in the Banco de Mexico and Vidal Quadras collections. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." This type was issued at Mexico in 1762-71; despite the long span of issue all dates are rare.
