This specimen was lot 31085 in Heritage sale 3041 (Chicago, August 2015), where it sold for $8,812.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Ferdinand VI gold Escudo 1748 Mo-MF AU58 NGC, Mexico City mint. Borderline Mint State with strong subjacent luster, sharply defined features and a few scattered surface abrasions in the obverse fields. Very rare in this quality, currently the single finest certified example for the type by NGC and an outstanding representative of this very scarce type. From The Rudman Collection of Mexican Coins." This type was struck 1748-51 and is the first of three types featuring Ferdinand VI, who died in 1759. In 1752, the "1 S" was dropped from the reverse.
